In debts but happy, how?

 Duddy’s brother Lennie ran away from home without telling anyone which made his father very worried that something horrible happened. In the beginning, we didn’t know why he ran away from home and from med school but we figured it was probably due to the amount of stress he was dealing with at school. It happens to the best of us but running away from your issues will never truly solve anything. It might help forget for a little while but saying it will heal everything is not realistic.

 

Duddy has changed a lot since the beginning of the story and it shows. He doesn't have a lot of time for himself anymore and he spends more time to enjoying the little things in his life, alone or with his friends. He works on his new movies to obtain enough money to pay his debt and buy his land around lac St-Pierre. 

Another aspect in which Duddy has changed is in the fact that he seems to embrass his jewish culture more. We can see that because he uses a lot more Hebrew/Yiddish terms than before. He is therefore changeing the way he speaks.
